FortiOS is deployed on a FortiGate appliance or as a VM running on ESXi VMware Server. (For the complete list of models, firmware and guidance see the list in Appendix A). Each FortiGate appliance consists of custom hardware, with the exception of the FortiGate-VM models, which do not include the hardware. The FortiGate unit consists of the following major components: processors, memory, mass storage, FortiASIC™ processors, and input/output interfaces.
