Blancco 5 solution is a certified and globally recognized data erasure solution in the marketplace, designed to irrevocably erase data simultaneously from multiple drives, including SSDs, in desktop/laptop computers, servers and storage environments. Blancco 5 is able to perform hardware detection on a host computer, display a list of available storage device(s) to the user and erase the selected target devices according to a chosen erasure standard. The software also prepares essential compliance evidence in the form of a report that can be generated before or after the erasure process. This report contains detailed information about the erasure, including timing information, details about hidden areas, remapped sectors and a list of any problems encountered during the erasure.
An erasure consists of overwriting normal device areas with predefined or random data. Firmware-based erasure methods (i.e. Secure Erase – ATA or Format Unit – SCSI) can be issued to storage devices, in the case that the chosen erasure method uses the command and the drive supports it. Verification of the erasure process is always performed and can be configured by the user to suit individual requirements.
Blancco 5 detects the complete capacity of a device and carries out the erasure process according to the user’s settings - erasing data from all addressable areas of the storage devices as well as from special areas such as:
- DCO
- HPA
- Reallocated Sectors
The solution can perform partial or full verification of erasure (depending on the standard and user input) and will report failure of the erasure if the verification process encounters unexpected problems. Blancco 5 is also capable of handling the erasure of logical volumes or it can dismantle RAID configurations in order to reveal the physical disks and erase them directly.
